Player & Staff Profiles
The 2010-11 Goannas Team had a full roster consisting of 11 Rookies, for 7 of whom this was their first AWIHL season. The Goannas are unique in that players come from all over Australia – Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Coffs Harbour, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Perth, Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Townsville – to be part of a ‘team with a difference’. But because of this, training together as a team on a regular basis is impractical. However, the players are all committed to attending training camp weekends and working hard individually off the ice as well as using ice time locally to improve their basic on ice skills 3-4 times/week.
The Goannas are also passionate about giving back to the community. The Team’s dedication extends past developing the sport of ice hockey and providing an opportunity for elite players to participate in the only semi-professional women’s league available in the Southern Hemisphere. We are fundraising for our nominated charity of choice - the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre – Queensland. The Goannas encourage you to ‘give a puck about prostate’ too. So if you do give a puck... then give a buck right now!
