More about Kelly CostaI started skating at the age of 3 and developed my skating abilities by excelling in Figure Skating until the age of 9 when I talked my parents into letting me play hockey with the boys. From here on in it was hockey all the time, I played representative boys hockey for 5 years in Cambridge, Ontario Canada on both select teams and in A Grade. At the age of 14 I started to play representative girls hockey, where I played in 4 Provincial Championships, and won a Gold, Silver and 2 Bronze medals respectively. I also played Women’s Junior AA hockey for the Cambridge Fury until I went to University.During my four years at the University of Waterloo, I played on the University team in the OUA. This took a great deal of commitment as we were required to train and play at a high level while also maintaining an academic average to be eligible to play In order to compete to the level required for the Goannas, I train on and off the ice, for up to 8 hours per week. I also watch as much hockey as possible to learn new skills and positioning on the ice. |
