More about Meghan de Jong

I learned to skate before the age of two at the local outdoor rinks in Edmonton, Canada. I started playing hockey with the boys after watching my brother play one season when I was eight years old, and have been playing ever since! I have played for a number of men’s and women’s teams at the competitive ‘A’ level in Ottawa over the last 18 years, but still love to go play pick-up at the outdoor rinks whenever I can.

I do a lot of running and hope to run a marathon at some point in the future. Otherwise my training consists of hitting the gym whenever I can, and the odd yoga class. I have always been involved in athletics ever since I was young, playing hockey, soccer, skiing, and swimming whenever possible. I am now a professional diver, and enjoy playing beach volleyball, surfing, and biking.

I am currently completing my Graduate Studies at the University of the Sunshine Coast and was stoked to get back on the ice to play with the Goannas this past season. I was off the ice for the 2009-2010 season, as I was travelling through Central America, and I really missed it. I thought I would be hanging up my skates moving to Australia, but I just couldn’t do it!!!
